Healthcare Quality Data Analyst
We are seeking a detail-oriented, technically savvy individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills to join our dynamic and collaborative team. Under the direction of the Director of Quality Measurement and Improvement, this position will provide data support for aggregation of healthcare data including quality, patient, and financial to support departmental reporting needs, quality improvement efforts, and related academic work. Researches, designs and develops; implements, and maintains reporting and analytical facilities in the context of the hospital's clinical and/or financial systems. Provide analytical and technical guidance to DoM Quality Program Staff and divisional staff. Following standard procedures and protocols, develops and maintains facilities that generate ad hoc as well as scheduled reports and analyses. Supports the institution's strategic analysis process and report development functions and organizational and department planning efforts by meeting data needs in alignment with goals and assisting in formulating the implementation of selected business plans to successfully achieve those goals. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Researches, designs and develops; implements, and maintains reporting and analytical facilities in the context of the hospital's clinical and/or financial systems. 2. Collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to ensure that reports are timely, accurate, meaningful, and interpretable. 3. Ensures that analyses and reports provide detailed, specific data regarding performance of individuals, teams, programs, divisions, and the department as a whole. 4. Generate reports from a variety of internal and external sources including benchmarking databases (e.g. PHIS, PACT, specialty-specific registries). 5. Provides analyses and reports of performance indicators, providing trended data using statistical process control or other appropriate epidemiological techniques. 6. Maintains sufficient knowledge of biostatistical techniques to ensure effective collaboration with Department of Medicine Faculty, biostatisticians and epidemiologists regarding appropriate data analysis. 7. Participates in regular 'Report Development' Users Group within the hospital and adhere to appropriate technical standards and guidelines. Minimum Knowledge and Skills · Bachelor's degree in MIS, Programming or related field · 5+ years of directly related experience in a healthcare setting · Technical awareness of coding systems, data types and data structures used to store clinical, demographic, and financial data in healthcare databases · Knowledge of clinical concepts, terminology and workflow - preferably as they apply to pediatrics. · Conceptual awareness of how data is organized and analyzed for patient care, practice management, and research purposes in healthcare organizations. · Experience with computer-based reporting and analysis tools such as: Microsoft Access, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, SAS, SPSS, Cognos, or Microstrategy. · Understanding of the value and use of standardized definitions, calculations, naming, and data storage conventions when working with such tools. · Understanding of basic relational database concepts, SQL syntax, and coding practices. In addition, familiarity with dimensional data modeling concepts used in data warehousing, business intelligence and business analytics and research applications. · Ability to translate reporting needs expressed in clinical or operational terms to technical solutions based on existing data, data structures and query tool functionality.
