MAHQ members include organizations and professionals in general acute, managed care, long-term, community and home health, rehabilitation, mental health and ambulatory care settings, as well as consultants and educators.
Membership is open to all professionals employed /affiliated in Massachusetts who are interested in the improvement of healthcare quality.

All members in good standing are entitled to membership privileges including the right to vote, hold office, participate on committees and the serve as a representative on the association board.

Education

A minimum of two programs are held every year. Each offers contact hours, including CPHQ’s, and are held in various locations in the state at reduced rates to members.

Newsletter

Published quarterly, the newsletter provides members with a timely calendar of upcoming programs, committee reports, state and national association updates and articles of interest.

Directory

Compiled annually and distributed to all members, this important resource contains a current listing of members including demographic information, state leadership, committee members and the association bylaws.

Health Outcomes Practitioner

Lahey Clinic Medical Center is seeking a Health Outcomes Practitioner to join their Quality Improvement Department.

Working closely with the Director and Quality Review Coordinator, the Health Outcomes Practitioner will be responsible for researching, compiling, evaluating and reporting data related to health outcomes within the Lahey Clinic system.

Utilizing external and internal data repositories, the Health Outcomes Practitioner provides reports and analysis to satisfy Regulatory requirements; as well as provides accurate information for internal review.

Requirements: BS required with 3 years experience in hospital QA statistical activities.

Manager Regulatory Affairs

Lahey Clinic Medical Center is seeking a Manager of Regulatory Affairs to join their team. The Manager of Regulatory Affairs is responsible for coordinating all regulations specific to JCAHO and DPH activities. This includes review of current compliance guidelines, program development, policy and procedure review and coordination of effort throughout the organization. This person reports to the Director of Quality Improvement.

Requirements: BSN required with 5 years experience in hospital regulatory affairs activity.

TITLE: Manager, MassHealth Acute Prepayment Review

JOB PURPOSE: Promote patient well-being and cost-effective utilization of MassHealth resources by organizing timely delivery of Acute utilization management and quality review services

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director for MassHealth Review Operations

INTERNAL CONTACTS: All MassHealth Managers; Information Systems programmers and analysts, Management Team members

EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Hospital staff in clinical, quality, administrative and records roles; DMA representatives

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand customer requirements as expressed in contract and regulations, and verbally;
  • Translate changes in customer requirements into processes, roles and procedures on an ongoing basis;
  • Hire, orient, and manage a staff of RN Review Coordinators and support staff providing timely prepayment and postpayment utilization management and quality review.
  • Represent MassHealth/MassPRO during appeals.
  • Work with programmers to spec, develop and upgrade review tools and tracking tools.
  • Resolve questions and concerns directed to MassPRO by staff in acute hospitals.
  • Develop skills and capabilities of staff, individually and collectively.
  • Report periodically on staff and program productivity, quality, timeliness and other measures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current RN license in Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus seven years (7) progressively responsible experience, or Associate’s degree plus seven years (9) progressively responsible experience. Master’s degree in relevant field (Nursing, Management, Health Care Administration) may be substituted for one year (1) of experience.
  • Three years (3) clinical experience in an acute care setting.
  • Two years (2) experience in project management or management roles.
  • Four years (4) experience in either utilization review, case management, quality review or some combination thereof.

  • Uses communications skills and negotiation skills to develop positive relationships with customers and staff;
  • Communicates complex technical, procedural, clinical and regulatory information effectively.
  • Develops a high functioning team, using communication, meeting management, and delegation skills to develop team and individual effectiveness.
  • Manages projects from concept to completion; creates and maintains focus and momentum.
  • Uses unstructured problem solving skills and analytical skills to identify performance enhancement opportunities; assesses processes for likelihood of delay, error and failure and proposes countermeasures.
